Stunning Sea Holly Plant

The Sea Holly is a very stunning architectural plant that can be found here along the Essex coast as well as in other European countries. It also comes in many varieties. In England during Elizabethan times it was used as an aphrodisiac and was refered to in one of the plays by Shakespeare.

Sea Holly Eryngium Giganteum

Sea Holly Eryngium giganteum

Eryngium giganteum is one of the varieties of sea holly, its prickly shaped ghostly white leaves constrast beautifully against other green vegetation. The flower heads are dramatic shows of tiny flowrs and the bees just love this plant. It does like a sunny position with well drained soil and will freely seed itself. It’s one of those plants that really does thrive on neglect.
